Blog Post 4 Erica B.

1. As the saying goes, in a less vulgar way, fighting for peace is like having sex for virginity. It's almost like an oxymoron; you want peace among other countries, so you go to war against them to acheive it. Just like MLK says in Where Do We Go From Here, "we must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means." Obviously, it is impossible to acheive complete world peace. But there is a way to come close. We must first find peace with those who you are surrounded by. If you can't even be peaceful as an indiviual with your neighbors what makes you think as a country we could be peaceful with the neighbors? "GPI will serve as an organization to promote a critical mass for peace consciousness by defining peace more broadly than an absence of conflict." Reading this statement alone proves that people view peace incorrectly and that an absence of conflict is not possible. GPI is an organization that has the correct initiative in acquiring Global Peace. They start by taking local footsteps, then global footsteps and that leads them to giant leaps. Peace cannot be found overnight. It will take time, and eventually evolve from a local footstep to a giant leap.

2.In World House, MLK talks about how we have lost the internal in the external, or we have lost our morals and spirituality amongst all the new technological advances that have come about within the recent century. The internal refers to spirituality, religion, morals. the external refers to the technology. So many new advances have been made and have become exrtemely useful, for example the phone or computer or internet or car. But people in modern days take advantage of the technology. In the old days in was a normal thing to go to church, to pray everynight before bed, and to say grace before dinner. Now people are too busy for church, they are on the phone or computer all night so by the time they go to bed they dont even think about saying a prayer, and so many families now dont even eat dinner together at a table. one will be at the computer desk eating the other will be in thier room on the phone eating and the other will be watching tv in the living room eating dinner. all of these "materialistic" things have become and interference in our internal realm. Before one would show their faith to God by attending church regulalry and follwoing his lifestyle, now you show your faith by forwarding a text message that says you believe in God to 10 people, because if you take the time to forward the message than God will take time to allow you to enter the pearly white gates when your time has come. That shows real effort. I completely agree with MLK and think that the more tecnology that comes out the lazier and more alienated people will become, which makes it a lot harder to achieve peace let alone getting along with our neighbors in our world house.

  1. Okay first off Erica, I LOVE the picture you chose. It fits perfectly with your blog. Also, I strongly agree with how you said that "people are too busy for church, they are on the phone or computer all night so by the time they go to bed they dont even think about saying a prayer, and so many families now dont even eat dinner together at a table." This is very true. There is nothing that I can say is wrong about your blog. You did an excellent job!
