1. There is obviously not one simple solution to end the nuclear arms race and turn it into a peace race. It has to be a collaboration of efforts and methods to get the plan moving that requires support and participation of everyone as a whole. One method I found interesting and seemingly effective were peace rallies. Massive amounts of people gather together in one place to promote peace and their ideas on how to do so. This gets the word out to people of importance who have the ability to influence the situation. Also, somehow we need to find a way to show people how much better life would be for everyone without war. Once they realize how the world would be if we just ALL stop fighting then no one will want to fight anymore. However, I believe this generation is too far gone, we need to stimulate the youth and make them aware of the situation and show them that peace is the only way we are going to survive.
2. According to Martin Luther King Jr, "The richer we have become materially, the poorer we have become morally and spiritually." This is extremely accurate of how we live today, we have so much stuff that we forget to stop and appreciate it and how we got it. The two realms MLK speaks of are the internal and the external. The internal is the realm of spiritual ends expressed in art, literature, morals, and religion. The external is that complex of devices, techniques, mechanisms, and instrumentalities by means of which we live. Apparently our problem is that we tend to be more focused on the external while forgetting about the internal all together. The only way to balance the two is to learn to limit the time we spend with our technology and stop to appreciate everything we have and not always want more and more. However, we can take advantage and use our advanced technology in a positive way to help others who are less fortunate than us. We can use television to help educate people on world issues we can help with and ask for donations and things of that nature.
This was a great post about the nuclear race. It was very incitefull.
ReplyDeletePeace rallys certainly bring awareness to the public. Don't forget you needed to find a source to back up your opinion, Carly.
