Laura Johnson Blog Post 4

1) To go from an arms race to a peace race would be extremely difficult and it would take the world many years to accomplish. The reason why this would take so long is because the world is accustom to using violence to gain everything and solve problems. The world needs to become educated on racial, ethnic, and gender equality so that they can become innovators in world peace. A few ways that they can begin to do this are by trying to limit violent references in the media, such as in music, television, video games, and movies. By educating people today we are educating the future leaders of society. And by educating the future leaders of society we are breaking the cycle so the possibly an arms race would not occur but a peace race would take place.

2)The realms that Dr. Martin Luther King talks about are "the realms of spiritual ends expressed in art, literature, morals, and religion" and the realm of "complex devices, techniques, mechanisms, and instumentalities by means of the way we live. Technology and spirtuality should be mixed in with eachother so that one could benefit the other. For example, technology lead to the creation of lamenanted prayer cards which are kept in wallets and used in a time of spiritual need. With technology religion is more easily spread than in previous years. Relgion might help technology by helping people think outside the box when creating new inventions.

  1. I loved how you explained how technology helped spread more religion. I never thought of it in that sense. Also I agree with your answer to the first question! Good Job!

  2. The photo for the first question is very interesting and I can see how your solution can reduce violence in the world but limiting what people can express through the mediums you mentioned seems to restrict freedom. Using religion to combine both technology and spirituality is a good balance.
