Blog Post 4 (Jared Zipper)

1. Since there has been war, people have longed for peace. However achieving peace is an impossible task because in nature there is no peace. Generally in nature there is a balance in the grand scheme of life. However there is always struggle a between the hunter (dominator) and the hunted (strives to survive). Peace needs to be reexamined because I believe most people think it is cut and dry, because we live in a world that still has wars. Peace is a gray area, with so many ideas and concepts surrounding it, that it gets lost in translation. We can teach peace, but do we really appreciate it? We can teach war, but have most of us ever been in one? I think people who believe peace can be solved by one answer are ignorant. Peace is an idea that’s a hidden treasure with no key . In order to create peace, we must examine nature and human nature itself.

2. Religion has given science meaning, one can’t survive without the other. MLK explains that man has gone to lengths to maintain his own conception of peace. However he fails to realize the environment surrounding him. That in order to balance our lives through scientific and religious thoughts, we must be awake. What he meant by this is being open to new ideas. That man has always failed to see social change and when it occurs they fail to realize what had occurred, but since there is no relevance they soon easily forget. The religious realm incorporates self understanding, being with a tight nit community working together, however it is limited because there are only so many people in your group. The scientific aspect not only unites multiple groups, but creates technology in which living is easier. He explains that if we combine both of them the world that we live in would be a better place.

  1. Yes, we can't just throw science out the window. It has to be about a proper balance of the two realms. I love your Dave Matthews video clip. Good job on the post.
