1. Stereotypes. Its a word that carries just as much of an impact as any other if not more. To stereotype someone, is to judge them without knowing them. Probably the most highly stereotyped people in the world are the arabs. Why? Well simply one reason, September 11, 2001. Nine years ago, and people are still thinking the same way. Some of the children that are stereotyped today, weren't even born yet! Yet just about everyone goes around, and by seeing an Arab, or a Muslim even (due to mistake of identification) they relate them to the terrorist attack. Not every Arab is a terrorist, in fact the majority of them are not and it isn't fair for them to sit back and be judged and be able to do nothing about it. There are so many things that can be done to change all the misconceptions. The picture above that I chose, is a simple message that reads loud and clear: not all arabs are bad. There are Arabs that are here in the United States and try to get jobs and aren't able to due to their heritage, not even their background check. Children are being ridiculed by other children of their age when parents could easily teach their child right from wrong. There are many ways to teach a young child, even by not being a parent that stereotypes. Its just a flaw in the world that can most definitely be fixed, and as much as we all know it can, no action is taken to correct that.
2. When I was younger, I was always helping my teachers out with little things such as filing, or grading papers afterschool rather then staying in after school care until my mom came to pick me up. I developed the title of "teachers pet" which at the time was such a negative thing. No one wanted to be called the teachers pet because you became the outcast to the class and everyone thought you would tell on them for everything they did wrong. It hurt me and because of it, I found myself continuously alone and doing my own thing. Being lonely in grade school was definitely a negative thing because for the longest time after, I thought there was something wrong with me, later I realized that there was something wrong with them. And the experience i went through from helping my teachers out, got me the job of being a teachers assistant in high school, so it most definitely paid off!
Great posts. Just watch your grammar and mechanics, Caitlin.
