1. From my understanding, Darley and Latane's "diffusion of resposibility" was defined as how when people are are in a group they feel as if something was to happen their would be enough other people for at least one person to end the conflict. In the Kitty Genovese case their were a large number of neighbors, thirty-eight to be exact, that had heard of screams occuring in the neighborhood. For her downfall those neighbors all thought of the same thing and thought that someone else would help her or retreive police assistant for the girl. The girl then suffered with no one to help. A similar case I found while searching the web how undercover cops were pretending to break into cars while at a Wal-mart and bystanders were all around just watching or ignoring it. In this case, they actually found two men helping the man break into the car, not knowing that he was pretending to steal it.

2. While searching on the web I also found a story that depicted bystanders doing the right things and helping the one in need. In chicago, not far from where I live in the Midwest, Michael Gryga fell into a hole while doing work underground and was killed while doing it. Gryga were testing equipment downtain below street level while a pressurized pipe bursted into him. Kevin Spiller a bystander steps in to help Michael and tried to recover him the best he could. Kevin was not able to keep him alive but was their helping him the best he could and was their for Michael as he died.

When you said that "diffusion of resposibility was defined as how when people are are in a group they feel as if something was to happen their would be enough other people for at least one person to end the conflict," I liked how you worded it in your own words. Although, the whole blog should have been a bit longer. But overall, you included a great video and great resources for your blog.
ReplyDeleteThe scenario you chose to compare the Kitty Genovese case too relates well. I like how you explained it so that the reader knows what it was about without even reading the article itself. I suggest your re-read your post before you submit it though, their are quite a few grammar mistakes that need to be corrected. However your analysis was easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteThe story you found about the cops pretending to steal a car and other comming into help shocked me as well as made me giggle a little. I felt like your blog could have had more of your thoughts on the matter. Great work and very intresting stories... :)
