1.Explain Darley and Latane's "diffusion of responsibility effect" in the Kitty Genovese case and find a similar case from the newspaper in which bystanders were involved and did nothing. Summarize the other case and provide your personal response to the story. Be sure and cite your source.
Darley and Latane’s diffusion of responsibly effect goes like this. People think that if they don’t call someone else will, and if someone else doesn’t its not that bad because it is only justifying their own actions. A similar case of Kitty Genovese is the case of Petru Birladeanu. This man was shot by the by the Italian mob in a crowded street. Yet no one did anything about it, they all just stood by and let this man die.

2.Darley and Latane cite social critics who believe that the United States has become a nation of strangers, alienated and withdrawn from one another. Write a response refuting this claim by summarizing one good Samaritan story from the news in which bystanders did react in a crisis to help someone out. Also, draw on your own or others' experience. Be sure and cite your source for your news story.
A man named Wesley Autray risked his life to save the life of a complete stranger that fell off the subway platform in New York City. A man fell in between the tracks of the subway, and when Wesley Autray saw the train coming he jumped of the platform and pinned the guy down, two of the subway cars actually passed over the men. He took the opposite approach. And although true they might have been strangers, he risked his life to save someone he had never met or had never even seen before. But none of that mattered to him.
