Thomas M Blog Post 3

1) It is human nature to observe other people. It is also human nature to see the worst in people. This is how stereotypes develop. Stereotypes are extremely prevalent when groups of certain people are with one another. If a bunch of women are at a salon there “Gossiping”. If a bunch of itialians are together they are usually eating and being loud. If there are African Americans walking down the street they are probably going to commit a crime. Of course to make any of these assumptions is unfair and very prejudiced. But what can we do to stop these stereotypes? I believe that our schools and families should start supporting children to be individuals and make their own mark o society. Develop their own positive standards. Not because of their race or nationality but because of who they are.
2) I have always been known as the quiet guy ever sense I can remember. Personally I think this is true. I consider myself as a thinker and an observer. I like to listen to other people talk and learn about other things by listening to them. It is not a negative stereotype and I don’t mind it, so I guess I have nothing to complain about.

  1. Your solution for stopping stereotypes is good, since the kids are encouraged to be themselves they'll see that stereotypes are based on false assumptions. The stereotypes that you mentioned are common examples of false assumptions. They can be seen in movies and various media sources such as commercials. I thought the photo you chose was funny.
